The best fiction writers don't ask AI to write their books. They ask it to unblock them, pressure-test ideas, and handle the mechanical work so they can focus on voice.
Start with constraints
Never ask an AI for "a chapter." Give it tone, point of view, the prior scene, and a specific instruction. Constraints produce prose that fits your story rather than generic filler.
Lock the voice
Use a tone and voice lock so generations stay consistent with your established style. If your narrator is dry and sardonic, the AI should know.
Always rewrite, never paste
Treat AI output as a rough draft. Read it aloud, cut the clichés, and reshape sentences in your own voice. The goal is momentum, not automation.
Use it for the hard parts
Stuck on a transition? Need five dialogue options for a tense scene? That's where AI shines — the moments where starting from blank is the obstacle.
